JESI and THE MARCHES

“La Vera Italia” welcomes you to “Le Marche”!
Whether you are a lover of the countryside and breathtaking hilly landscapes, picturesque medieval villages or magnificent beaches, the Marches is the perfect choice. Recently described by the New York Times as a region full of natural beauty just waiting to be discovered, this part of central Italy is ideal for those who are seeking to avoid chaotic cities and mass tourism.

"Le Marche", or the Marche, has its feet in the Adriatic Sea and its head in the 6,000-foot peaks of central Italy's Apennines, on the border of Tuscany and Umbria. Between beach and border is a land that is almost 90 percent hills and mountains, much of it pleasant hill-and-dale agricultural land where church steeples crown every high point." "...Le Marche - the vera Italia that both the Briton and the Bolognese spoke of - a place where travellers can still feel a genuine sense of discovery and quiet pleasures as they meander back roads and walk on cobbles that haven't yet been polished by the soles of a million tourists."(New York Times, 22nd May 05)

“La Vera Italia” is in Jesi, a picturesque historical town in the province of Ancona, founded by the Romans and birthplace of the Emperor Frederick II of Swabia (XII century A.D.) and the famous composer Gian Battista Pergolesi (XVIII century).
Jesi is not far from the Adriatic sea and lies in a beautiful valley called Vallesina. It is surrounded by rolling hills covered in vineyards, olive groves, cornfields and sunflowers.

There are several museums in the historical city centre, such as the
the Pinacoteca Civica (picture gallery), the Galleria di Arte Contemporanea (Gallery of Contemporary Art), Museo Civico Archeologico di Jesi e del territorio (local archeological museum) and the Biblioteca Planettiana (“Planettiana” library).
You can also admire some beautiful buildings
( Palazzo della Signoria, Palazzo Pianetti, Palazzo Ricci ,
and the Pergolesi Theatre );
and churches like the Duomo (cathedral) and the Chiesa di San Marco (Saint Mark’s Church). It is also possible to see Roman ruins which have become part of dwellings. The town centre, enclosed within one of the longest fourteenth-century walls in Italy, testifies the architectural ingeniousness of the past.

Jesi offers visitors a warm welcome and an abundance of local specialities and wines. In a very short time you will feel part of a community in which ancient traditions harmonize with modern lifestyles.
